Sam - Cochlear ImplantSam received a cochlear implant at the age of 16 months; however, his speech production was impaired because of reduced muscle tone and motor planning deficits. Despite intensive educational programming and traditional speech language therapy, Samís speech production skills were poorly developed by the age of 3 years. PROMPT® was introduced at the age of 3 years, 3 months, shortly after which Samís speech motor stability and coordination improved, allowing him to produce consonant-vowel combinations with a high level of accuracy. With consistent PROMPT sessions, 1X per week, and coordination among parent and professionals, Sam developed increased intelligibility at the phrase and sentence level, decreased frustration and the ability to communicate successfully in social and academic environments.

According to The Childrenís Hearing Institute:

Children implanted early, who do not have other significant developmental disabilities, and when coupled with intensive post-implantation speech language therapy, may acquire age appropriate speech, language, developmental and social skills.  Learn More
