Childhood Apraxia of Speech Walk-a-Thon:
"Unlock our Voice, Open our Future"
with Guest Speaker Donna Lederman, CCC/SLP
"Thanks to all of you walkers who braved the bad weather and came out to support children with apraxia at speech at the first Long Island Walk for Children with Apraxia (Abbie's Angels) on Sunday, October 18! We know you were up against a lot, but you truly showed what you are made of and the tremendous support in the community for these beautiful children.
Due to your efforts, you not only raised awareness about this speech disorder but you also raised over $37,000 for CASANA's apraxia programs and research! While walks continue to happen in a few other communities, by and large it would be difficult for any group to top this effort! For this reason, in the spring of 2010, we will be coming to the Long Island area to present a special, free workshop called Apraxia 101 for your community. We will work with the Walk Coordinator, Jennifer Forte, to identify specific topics and issues facing those in your region so that the workshop can do the most good for the most people possible.
Incredible thanks to every walker and team who made this event successful! However, without the talent and determination of one person, Walk Coordinator Jennifer Forte, none of this would have happened! A very special thanks to her and her entire extended family and friends whose hard work made the walk a phenomenal success — all for the love of that beautiful Abbie."
